The Oslo Pledge

Dear Colleagues,

The first EAAE Deans’ Summit took place at the right time: Tremendously inspiring insights from the keynote speakers and inputs as well as intense group and panel discussions have shown the importance of exchange, the need for solidarity and the possibilities of supporting each other as leaders of schools of architecture, design and urban planning. This event marks the start of a new tradition and impactful actions! We thank all speakers and participants for their valuable contributions. And also, a big thank you to Rector Ole Gustavsen and his team at AHO, Oslo School of Architecture and Design, who made this event possible and for being such great hosts.

Please find the latest version of the Oslo Pledge on the EAAE website. As the next step, we will elaborate some suggestions for action fields and make a call for participation in projects.

The NEBC-Conference took place on 29th April starting with an opening speech from EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Of the 11 participatory thematic labs that followed, two were co-organised and led by the EAAE.  The first regarded practice-driven research, in collaboration with ARENA and ELIA, and the second on life-long and life-wide learning, in collaboration with ARENA, ELIA, ACE and ECEC. The overall participation to the event has been remarkable, reaching over 600 attendees. The conference main achievements will be bundled in a publication and offered to the EU Commission, and will be serving as inspiration and support for the NEBC collective follow-up initiatives.

The next important EAAE event, which connects to the agenda of the Deans’ Summit, is the joint Teachers Conference with our partner organisation ACSA that will be held virtually from June 24 – 25, 2021. The topic of the Conference is “Curriculum for Climate Agency: Design (in)Action”, so the current discussions can be continued seamlessly. Please register here.

From 25 to 27 August 2021 our Annual Conference and General Assembly will take place in a hybrid format at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague. Registration is open.

The elections of three Council members will take place during the General Assembly. The President of the EAAE calls for candidates from all full members schools. Please consult the call and the candidacy conditions here.

May we ask your help to disseminate The Design Studio Student Survey – 2021, prepared by SCHOSA and the RIBA with the support of EAAE. The results will be shared with all EAAE member schools and will hopefully help us improve our courses and provide evidence which will help us maintain our resources.

Best regards,
Oya Atalay Franck
President EAAE
