Faculty profile

In Spain the professional competences of Architects include architecture, building, urbanism and real estate management.All this disciplines are included in the curricula of architects at the Spanish Schools.

The School of Architecture at UPV provides education for these competences at an internationally competitive level of excellence. The school is closely interconnected with other faculties and departments of  UPV.

The faculty of Architecture is located within the Technical University of Valencia’s campus. A wide campus, on the city’s edge, hand by hand with the “huerta”, and close to the seaside, although its public transport keeps it in good connection with the city’s historical centre and other main points of the city. The campus offers a wide range of facilities for students.

2449 students (2009 Bachelor, 425 Master, 15 PhD), 10% of foreign students.

266 staff members (200 full-time and approx. 66 visiting lecturers and critics).

Student Activities

Student Association / Delegación de Alumnos, International Relations and Exchange Service, Work Placements Service, students associations as IAESTE, EASA, “Arquitectura se Mueve”. Different international workshops, lectures, exhibitions and seminars are organized by the different services of the School.

Facilities

58 Theoretical Classrooms, 8 Computer Classrooms, 5 Graphical Classrooms, 6 project design Laboratories. All equipped with projectors, computers and sound system.

Main Auditorium with 333 seats, equipped with HD projector and recording and simultaneous translation cabin. Projection Room with 84 seats, equipped with HD projector and recording. Degree Room with 35 seats, equipped with projector.

Architectonic Information Centre, with 325 seats, 16000 books, 650 magazines, 2070 DVDs, various architects archives and the Architect and Urbanism Archives.

Exhibitions Room (150 square meters). Model Workshop equipped with 2 laser cutters, 2 3D printers and wood cutter machines. Plotter Room. Photo Lab. Construction Laboratory. Fire Laboratory.

This degree aims to train future professionals to be able to create architectural plans that satisfy the users’ aesthetic, technical and other requirements, always respecting the limits imposed by cost factors and building regulations. Guarantees admission to all master programmes.

The Master’s Degree in Architecture completes the training requirements for the regulated profession of Architect that began with the Bachelor’s Degree in the Fundamentals of Architecture. The title of Master of Architecture directly confers the professional qualification of Architect on the holder.


Master of advanced Studies, Architectural Heritage Conservation:, 1 year, Master, Spanish, 72,

The conservation, preservation and appreciation of heritage is an obligation for contemporary society. In architecture we should not only understand heritage as being immovable property of cultural interest (monuments), but also the combined structures that make up the context that has shaped society throughout its history.


Master of advanced Studies, Landscape, Urbanism and Design on Advanced Architecture, 1 year, Master, Spanish, 72,

The main objective of the Master’s Degree in Advanced Architecture, Landscape, Urban Planning and Design is to provide current architects, future architecture graduates and other technicians with complementary specialized training that enables them to develop their professional career.


Master of advanced Studies, Landscape Architecture, 2 years, Master, Spanish / English, 120,

advanced training, with a multidisciplinar character, oriented to professional specialization in analysis, planning, design, management and preservation of urban and territorial landscape.


The studies of Architecture are composed by two programes:

  • Five year bachelor’s degree in the Fundamentals of Architecture: 300 credits programe.
  • One year Master’s degree in Architecture: 60 credits program. The title of Master of Architecture confers the professional qualification of Architect.

In the second semester of the Master’s degree students have to present a Final Project. Since the academic degree provides professional competences, the final project is highly demanding and it must verify the student qualifications.

Educational programme
A six year programme divided in 2 degrees: 5 years bachelor’s degree (300 credits) and 1 year Master’s degree (60 credits, 30 of them devoted to the final project)

The contents of the different courses are provided by the academic units known as Departments. 11 UPV departments offer courses at the ETSAV:

The compulsory courses offered by these departments integrate the core of the degree.
Additionally, elective subjects must be selected out of the following blocks:
1- Architectural building and technology
2- City and terrain urbanism and intervention
3- Intervention over architectural heritage and restoration
4- Real Estate Market and Construction Enterprise organization and Management.

The ETSAV supports strongly international and exchange experiences. Roughly, 260 students are sent abroad and almost 250 are welcome as incoming students, per academic year. Teaching staff mobility is also a commitment.

The ETSAV counts with several established agreements which allow students from 3rd year onwards, develop internships on several enterprises. This provides them with a complementary formation besides the academic one. IAESTE works hand by hand with the above mentioned agreements, offering students other possibilities to acquire labour experience linked to their studies throughout trainees in foreign enterprises and other institutions.

Architectural Heritage Conservation Official Master Degree.
Architectural heritage management and conservation define a first magnitude within an economical and cultural scope, operated by private investors and public administrations, which rely on a social demand, which is day by day more demanding. Therefore, it is necessary to form a highly qualified and specialized professional, who can give answers to this demand and capable of planning and managing these resources.

Advanced Architecture, Landscape, Urban Planning And Design Official Master Degree
The main aim of this programme is to acquire projecting and managing competence in urban, territorial and landscaping interventions, within a sensibility which incorporates respect towards all heritages and means environment; as well as advising on policies, projects and plans over the above mentioned topics, fields which represent a high percentage on professional employment for architects, engineers and other technical graduates.

Landscape Architecture

The objectives of this programme are an advanced training, with a multidisciplinar character, oriented to professional specialization in analysis, planning, design, management and preservation of urban and territorial landscape. The academic programme has been designed according to the requirements established at the IFLA Charter for Landscape Architectural Education from the International Federation of Landscape Architecture (IFLA) and in the ECLAS Guidance on Landscape Architecture Education. The Tuning Project ECLAS- LE:NOTRE, from the European Conference of Landscape Architecture Schools (ECLAS).

UPV plays an important role in technological innovation and regional development.

Its technical and scientific competence satisfies the demands of society and provides a considerable share of the qualified personnel employed in the Valencian Community.
