Unspoken Issues in Architectural Education
An International Conference on Architectural Education with the theme of “Unspoken Issues in Architectural Education” will be held at the Faculty of Architecture, Eastern Mediterranean University in Gazimagusa (Famagusta), North Cyprus, on April 3‐4, 2014. The meeting is organized with the intention that scholars, practitioners and students will come together for discussing architectural education from various perspectives.
To this end, the Conference will be pleased to consider proposals from interdisciplinary scholars, practitioners and students from all around the world working in the disciplines of design, architecture, art & architectural history, engineering, urban studies, cultural studies, sociology, environmental studies, or pedagogical studies.
This conference is intended to aid in the advancement of discussions on several critical issues in architectural education, with the main themes of “Diversified Mediums”, “Dynamic Philosophy”, and “Contradictory Education”. In view of these main themes, the main objective of the conference is to investigate and disseminate key challenges of architectural education in present time such as; the (ir)relevance of architectural education to the real world, the effects of media, working or designing for the poor, disaster management, climate change, fuel poverty, the price of energy, conflicts and wars, number of architects and architectural schools, questioning the methodology of teaching in architecture and many more “unspoken” issues.
The Conference is also intended to support the publication and expansion of knowledge and experiences in architectural education. In this respect, 14 papers (which must have been presented at the conference) selected by the scientific committee will be published in Open House International Journal (AHCI and SSCI, http://www.openhouse‐int.com); four papers in April, 2014 and then ten papers in a special issue of the same journal in mid‐2015. In addition, all papers presented in the conference will be published in a proceedings book/CD.
