Designing for the Third Age
This competition is to encourage students internationally to consider possibilities for different housing scenarios. It provides the opportunity to engage with an issue of Architectural Design (AD). The AD title, Designing for the Third Age: Architecture Redefined for a Generation of ‘Active Agers, guest-edited by Lorraine Farrelly, which is to be published by Wiley in March 2014. The winning submissions will be included in this publication. The competition serves to encourage students to think creatively about how we may live in the future and how living spaces must accommodate changing needs and expectations of society.
In particular this competition encourages innovative thinking about the possibilities of the interior space, and flexible architectural solutions and the relationship of the home to our changing expectations for living spaces. How might it adapt over an individual’s lifetime as a narrative or story?
