The Faculty of Architecture from the Univerzitet [Sv.Kiril i Metodij] is located in Skopje, Macedonia. It presents a integrative five years programme in architecture, subdivided in I and II Cicles. This educative format aims to capacitate the students with generic and professionally oriented skills.

In addition, the students that have already attended these cicles may be admitted to the first semester of the third cycle of studies (doctoral studies).

The curriculum from this school is based on the provisions from the Bologna Declaration and the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). It was adopted in July 2006 by the Teaching and Scientific Council of the Faculty of Architecture implemented at the faculty in the 2007/2008 school year.

The curriculum provides acquisition of generic and professional competencies.

The Bachelor of Architecture (1st Cicle) is received during this five-year integrate programme, after the third year, when students acquire a degree in undergraduate professional education in the area of architecture. This degree does not allow access to the profession of architect but does allow participation in the preparation of design and planning documentation.

The Academic and professional skills are obtained in a Master of Architecture (2nd Cicle). It is the final vocation received after successful attendance and completion of five-year integrated programme in architecture. This final vocation provides access to the profession of the Architect, which means the right to draw up design and planning documentation.

In the proposed curriculum, studio is the core of learning the architectural design process. Studio is present from the first to the ninth semester in the period of one semester. The nature of the studio and its relation to other subjects from the first to the ninth semester is different from the studio practiced between the seventh and the ninth semester.

The Bachelor in Architecture (first cycle of studies) conducts the students to acquire:

– Knowledge in the different approaches to building design and ability to develop them and present them appropriately in the project documentation for construction of buildings and interior design.

– Knowledge in different approaches to urban planning and ability to present them appropriately in the planning documentation for urban space design.

– Knowledge in the area of buildings execution, the stages and activities related to the construction of the building.

– Knowledge in materials, structures, installation systems and energetic balances and its application in building design and construction.

– Abilities which cover the development of different designs, surveying existing conditions and application of computer, digital and other support in their presentation.

 

After completing this three-year programme, students with intermediary professional degree have access to job positions related to participation in most of the above mentioned tasks under item as associates, but may not perform any of them individually.

The Master in Architecture represents the professional phase of the five-year integrated programme. Here there are the compulsory courses, which form the knowledge corpus in the areas of architectural theory, architectural design, urban planning and shaping, management, interior design and protection of the constriction heritage, as well as a number of electives from the VII to the X semester. The six electives in the last four semesters give the possibility for choice and direction in the areas of study.

The Master in Architecture (second cycle of studies) conducts the students to acquire:

– Knowledge required for analyzing architectural and urban problems and synthesizing design solutions for different levels of complexity.

– Knowledge required for use of different concepts from the theory and history of architecture and the city.

– Knowledge in functional, psychological and sensual relations between people and the interior and the role of the form, colour, materials and new technologies in shaping interiors.

– Knowledge required for establishing appropriate respect to the construction heritage, regarding its protection and revitalization and in the cases when construction occurs in its surroundings.

– Knowledge in the basic principles referring to materials, constructions, installation systems and energetic balances and its application in building design and construction.

– Knowledge in the stages and the method of realization of buildings in the given social, legal and economic context.

– Abilities to apply graphic, written and oral communication for transmitting ideas and requirements for the project realization to the user.
