EAAE/ACSA Teachers’ Conference in Antwerp

Dear Colleagues,

It is a pleasure to inform you that the first joint event of ACSA and EAAE has been launched.  On 28 and 29 June 2019, the ACSA/EAAE Teachers Conference will take place at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. Many thanks to the University of Antwerp for hosting this important event and taking the lead. The conference’s topic is: “The Practice of Teaching | The Teaching of Practice: the Teacher’s Hunch”. We are looking forward to your abstract submissions until 23 January 2019 and your numerous attendance in June 2019.

As announced in the last newsletter, the next Annual Conference and General Assembly will be held in Zagreb from 28 to 31 August 2019, hosted by University of Zagreb. Please make sure that you have saved the dates! We are constantly updating the information for this event on our website. For 2020, we will soon start the selection process for the hosting institution. As soon as we have completed the evaluation of the Porto Conference, we will be sending out the call for the Annual Conference and General Assembly 2020. Our goal is to announce the location and host before Christmas.

Looking back at events taking place after Porto: On 20 September, the winners of the YTAA Young Talent Architecture Award 2018 were celebrated at the granting ceremony in Venice. It was the first year that the competition was jointly organised by Fundació Mies van der Rohe, EAAE and ACE-CAE and supported by the European Commission – Creative Europe and La Biennale di Venezia. To meet the very talented and motivated young graduates and to discuss with them the role of education as well as their plans and ideas was very exciting and eye-opening. Their projects are excellent promises for the future, showing inspired and sensitive approaches to the problems posed as well as strong ideas while embracing the complex issues and wicked problems of the built environment – new and old. EAAE was prominently engaged at the event: by being in charge of one of the two panels, an in meetings with representatives of La Biennale and of EU’s Directorate General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture where a number of possibilities for future collaboration were discussed that will make EAAE more visible and stronger – my thanks go to the Fundació Mies van der Rohe for bringing us together at this event!

Please keep following us on our website and our social media channels.

Best regards

Oya Atalay Franck
President EAAE
