Dear Colleagues
With this special newsletter we would like to draw your attention to two important calls that we have announced before and which are now open for responses:
I. With the first call, the Council of EAAE is cordially inviting its member schools to volunteer for hosting and organizing the ANNUAL CONFERENCEand GENERAL ASSEMBLY for the year 2020.
The provisional format of the event is as follows: one day for the Conference, half a day for the General Assembly, half a day for presentations of ongoing projects, and an additional half-day for excursions, for a total duration of the event of 2,5 days (Wednesday-Friday). However, we are also open to new ideas regarding the format. Please note that, both events traditionally take place at the last week of August and/or at the beginning of September.
For the financial aspects of the event, please refer to the attached document. The hosting school is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the proceedings. For this, the hosting school will have to work tightly with the steering committee of the EAAE Council (members not yet determined). The Annual Conference and General Assembly is an excellent opportunity for the hosting school to achieve more visibility and take an active role in the promotion of the discourse concerning architectural education in Europe.
If your school is interested in volunteering as host institution for 2020, we kindly ask you to submit a letter of intent explaining your motivation as well as a draft budget and a proposal for a theme for the conference until 30 November 2018 to the EAAE Secretariat via webmaster@eaae.be. For your immediate questions, please feel free to contact me directly (oya.atalay@zhaw.ch). The Council will decide upon the bids during its meeting in December.
II. With the second call, we kindly ask you to send us your feedback regarding the new position paper of the Education Academy “PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF ARCHITECTURAL EDUCATION”.
Based upon the discussions that were held during recent workshops of the Education Academy, this position paper aims at formulating the shared ideas regarding architectural education. It attempts to demonstrate the scope and relevance of architectural education and to provide arguments to claim the space, time, attention and conditions it requires. As professional practices and fields of employment are rapidly transforming, responding to varying needs and conditions, EAAE opens up this document for feedback from all its members. This will lead to revision every three years, thus articulating the values for which the EAAE actually stands for.
The position paper can be accessed through this link.
Feedback on the paper is collected through an online form that can be accessed through this link.
Although the form will remain open for further entries, we will draw a first summary of reactions, comments and suggestions by 30 November in order to estimate the reception of the position paper.
Best regards
Oya Atalay Franck
President EAAE
