Created more than one decade ago, the LUSOFONA GROUP gathers five entities operating in the educational sector in all countries whose official language is Portuguese. The biggest of these entities– COFAC – is a cooperative institution operating in the Portuguese territory in eight different schools and it is considered to be the biggest Private and Cooperative University in Portugal. It has also two Universities in Mozambique (Maputo and Quelimane), one in Cape Verde (Mindelo), one in Guinea-Bissau (Bissau) and one in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro). COFAC holds three Schools of Architecture: in Lisbon, at ULHT (Universidade Lusofona de Humanidades e Tecnologias), in Oporto, at ULP (Universidade Lusofona do Porto) and in Portimao (Algarve), at ISMAT (Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes).

Although scientifically autonomous, each of the three Schools of Architecture tend to converge to a common pedagogical branch in general and applied Architectural and Urban Studies, with the following particular skills: Lisbon – oriented towards new technologies and sustainable construction; Portimao – oriented towards the Mediterranean specificities; Porto – towards the north eastern peninsular Atlantic conditions.The Programmes of Studies are structured accordingly to the directions of the Portuguese Order of Architects and the European Community Directives, namely the Directive 85/384/EEC and Directive Architects qualifications 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications.

2nd semester: Elements of Architecture II; Architectural Drawing II; Digital Systems I; Introduction to Architectural Theory; Economics and Project Marketing; Construction Systems II.

3rd semester: Architectural Design I; Geometry Applied to Architecture II
Digital Systems II Three-dimensional modeling; Natural Environment I – Climate; Construction Systems III; Structural Systems I – Static.

4th semester: Architectural Design II; History of Architecture and the Arts I; Digital Systems III Parametrization and Morphogenesis; Natural Environment II – Geomorphology / GIS; Fundamentals of Landscape Architecture; Construction Systems IV; Structural Systems II.

5th semester: Architectural Design III; Anthropology of Space I

PhD and research activities are offered through our Research Centre in Lisbon – LABART [http://www.labartresearch.com/index.html]- and through joint programmes with other European Universities (Salford, La Coruna and Madrid). Occasional postgraduate programmes may appear every year.
