Faculty profile

The School of Architecture was founded by decree of April 1958 but did not begin to run until October 1960 for organizational reasons and practices. Temporarily opened in the old Pavilion of Brazil Latin American exposure. During 1966-67 there was the inauguration of its new headquarters in the current Avd de Reina Mercedes. The school opened unfinished, be two competitions for students, the project of Hall and stained glass windows with scenes from the chapel of Surveyors. The school in its new headquarters was planned to accommodate 1,000 students, so it's no wonder that over the years is made to tamper expansion and interior renovation. Today's problems are still spaces with a student population of over 4,000 and over 400 teachers and administrative staff and services. School of Architecture is the largest in Andalusia and No. 3 in Spain, after Madrid and Barcelona. It is now taught in this school since the 2006-07 academic year, two Master Officers: Master's Degree in Architecture and Heritage and the Masters in City and Sustainable Architecture.

The first documentation of the project of ETSA is dated February 1960. This unpublished documentation and incomplete specimen were deposited in the library of the School. The project is signed by Rafael Fernandez Huidobro and Luis Gomez Sterns, and consists of at least 23 planes. The laboratory building dates from 1972, the Magna class I of 1976, the building of urban planning in 1989, the Magna II class of 1990 and finally, the new classrooms in the period 99-02.

The School has 9 Departments: Applied Physics; Applied Mathematics; Architectural Design; Urban and Regional Planning; History, Theory and Architectural Composition; Architectural Graphic Expression; Architectural Construction; Contiinuos Mechanics, Theory of Structures and Geotechnical Engineering.

The Degree in Architecture (Grado en Arquitectura 2010) is divided in 60 fundamental subjects, 222 obligatory credits, 18 elective credits and 30 credits for the final graduation project.

The new Bachelor Program consist in a five year program with 330 ECTS. After the fifth year the title candidate should write a final graduate thesis, which can take up to one year. The course offers a diverse lack of optative subjects, in which the student can choose the most adequate to his/her education.

The Master in School of Architecture from the University of Sevilla consist in a 60 ECTS Program, that can be allied simultaneously with a Ph.D. Program. They capacite the students to  further research in the choosen topic.

The Doctoral Programme offers advanced training in research techniques that may include courses, seminars and other activities including research training and the preparation and presentation of a doctoral thesis.

In a regular basis, the period of training in doctoral programs at the University of Seville should be used to obtain an official Official Master’s degree or 60 ECTS. Exceptionally and for issues of strategic interest to the University of Seville, the training period may consist of passing a set of 60 European credits of graduate level teaching not included in official Master’s degrees.

To enter in the Doctoral School, the candidate must meet the same requirements for accessing Official Masters.

To acces the doctoral research phase, the candidade will have to pass the training period as set out in the preceding paragraphs.
