Call for Hosting the General Assembly and Annual Conference 2018
Dear Colleagues
This year’s General Assembly and Annual Conference ended just a few days ago. I would again like to express my gratitude to Martin Chénot and his team at école nationale supérieure d’architecture et de paysage de Bordeaux for being such wonderful hosts.
At the same time we are looking forward to next year’s issue of these events. We hereby ask our member schools to volunteer for hosting and organizing the General Assembly and Annual Conference 2018. The format of the event is as follows: one day for the Conference, half a day for the GA, half a day for the presentations of the ongoing projects, and an optional half day for an excursion. The format is not finally fixed and might be developed in discussion between the future organizers and the EAAE Council. EAAE will appoint a working-group to assist with the preparations.
The conference fee should be around EUR 300 (less if possible), which should cover the costs for the infrastructure, one or two a dinners (usually after the GA), two lunches, and all coffee breaks. The EAAE has in the three last Congresses and GAs can supported the event with a maximum of EUR 10 000. This amount is to be considered a “deficit warranty”: if the income from the registration fees exceeds the expenses, the excess money is to be returned to EAAE.
Other costs of participation – such as for travel, accommodation, and food except for the meals mentioned above – must be carried by the participants themselves or by their schools, respectively. Therefore, the availability of inexpensive but appropriate travel and accommodation will play a role when selecting the venue.
The Annual Conference and General Assembly is a perfect opportunity for bringing more visibility to your school and at the same time taking an active role in the promotion of the essential discussions concerning architectural education in Europe.
If you are interested in volunteering as host for 2018, we kindly ask you to submit a letter of intention explaining your motivation as well as a draft budget and a tentative theme for the conference until 30th September 2017 to the EAAE Secretariat (eaae@uhasselt.be). The Council will decide upon the bids during his meeting in mid-October.
