Dear Colleagues,

How lively, constructive, critical and open the many discussions at this year’s Annual Conference and General Assembly were! It was truly a great pleasure for me personally and for the Council to see the EAAE members’ commitment and enthusiasm towards good education and high quality research! In addition, the valuable contributions of the ACE, ACSA, ARCC and ELIA representatives enriched our discussions.

We would again like to express our gratitude to Carlos Guimarães, João Pedro Xavier and the whole team from the Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto, FAUP for being such marvelous hosts. Many thanks also to VELUX, the main sponsor of the conference!

The Council met for the first time in its new composition just after the General Assembly, and we assigned responsibilities and tasks. We will continue working on improving our support and services for our member schools. We also aim at increasing our visibility, strengthen our networks and further expand our activities.

On Saturday 20. October 2018, the Education Academy will have its 6th workshop at the School of Architecture UPV Universitat Politècnica de València. The workshop is intended for those who are willing to actively engage in setting up the new 'Educating the Educators' platform. In this workshop, external advisors will share with us their knowledge regarding planning the course of actions leading to such a platform. Together we will map and discuss existing platforms and existing initiatives of didactic program. We intend to develop, in the course of time, tailored made didactic programs that will suit the specific needs of the architectural design studio. More information and a link for registration can soon be found on the website.

At the General Assembly in Porto, the Education Academy presented the outline of its position paper “Principles and Practices of Architectural Education”. As announced, the position paper will be available online from the end of September onwards. EAAE opens up this document for feedback from all its members. Please keep in mind to take a look and let us know your response!

The next Annual Conference and General Assembly will take place at the University of Zagreb from 28. to 31. August 2019. Please reserve these dates in your agenda.

The call for hosting the Annual Conference and General Assembly 2020 will be announced very soon. Also the minutes from the GA 2018 will be published in the days to come.
