The professorship is full-time and, depending on the positioning on the tenure track, either a fixed-term or permanent position.

Job description

The history of architecture and architectural conservation are important fields in the teaching, research and doctoral education of the Department of Architecture. The professorship in the history
of architecture and architectural conservation imparts essential knowledge for a holistic understanding of the built heritage of Nordic countries in particular and for conserving their building
stock, and also plays an important role in public discussions and societal interaction on historic preservation and cultural heritage.

The tasks of the professor in the history of architecture and architectural conservation include teaching and research in the field, providing service to the department and to the university, and
engaging in societal interaction. The professor, together with lecturers, post-doctoral researchers, hourly teachers and other academic faculty, will be responsible for the teaching and curriculum
development of the field at the bachelor’s and master’s level. The professor will also act as supervisor for doctoral candidates in the Doctoral Programme of Arts, Design and Architecture.
The duties of the professor may also include other tasks assigned by the head of the department.

Requirements

Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in architecture or some other relevant field. Experience in leading research projects and supervising doctoral candidates and in architectural
conservation practice are considered merits. The candidate should also have good teaching skills and experience in higher education. Completed pedagogical studies are valued.
Throughout their careers, those in the academic tenure track system are expected to conduct and to lead scientific research, to provide related higher academic education, to follow the advances in
their field, to provide service to the Aalto University community, and to take part in societal interaction and in international collaboration in their field.

The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their research merits and practical experience in architectural conservation projects, their teaching merits, academic leadership skills and activity in

  publications in PDF format

• a statement describing the applicant’s vision of research and teaching in the fields of the history of architecture and architectural conservation (max. 2 pages).
